SHORT DESCRIPTION

Offshore wind energy is one of the key components of a successful energy transition. The Balwin 1 and Balwin 2 systems are intended to transport the energy generated by offshore wind farms to the Westerkappeln and Ibbenbüren grid connection points in the future. From a regulatory perspective, the overall project is divided into five planning approval sections in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.

Based on the regional planning procedure, the routes for the dual system, each with three parallel cables laid in DA280mm protective pipes, were planned. The routing includes elements of open control cable trenches, closed crossings using HDD drilling methods, and special construction methods for crossing railway lines, canals, and large bodies of water.

Prior to the subsequent cable pulling into the planned protective pipes, cable pulling calculations must be carried out and the route must be aligned appropriately for cable pulling. Numerous joint locations with comprehensive logistics concepts for heavy transport by the cable suppliers were planned along the route.
