Shortdescription

The Programme comprises, among institutional capacity strengthening and management support activities, the following two infrastructure investment components:

Component A: 

Development of two new WWTPs Chunga (plant capacity of 397.106 PE, second stage) and WWTP New Ngwerere (plant capacity of 1.224.514 PE, second stage). 
 

Component B: 

Expansion of the sewerage system incl. the WWTPs associated main collectors and sewage pumping stations, construction of fecal sludge treatment plants and on-site sanitation facilities incl. household and public toilets

Projectdata

Under this assignment, the Independent Sewerage System Performance Assessment being part of the Lusaka Sanitation Programme, a performance evaluation of the sewer system was conducted, and a definition of potential rectifying interventions was proposed. Moreover, it was required to identificate the following issues:

  • Technical, commercial, environmental and social risks for the investments, the operation and maintenance as well as the beneficiaries/population affected,
  • Mitigation measures required to warrant full utilization of the overall system and to secure sustainable O&M of the overall system including corresponding cost estimates for investments and consultancy services,
  • Gap analysis of LWSC and their current technical, commercial, and financial O&M capacities for these respective facilities and definition of risk mitigation and training measures including cost estimates.
