SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Hengstey waterworks is located at the confluence of the Volme and Ruhr rivers. Raw water is taken from the Ruhr in the Hengstey Lake area and treated into drinking water using a complex process involving filtration, infiltration, and disinfection.
In view of the pollution of the Ruhr with micropollutants, the treatment of raw water into drinking water at the Hengstey waterworks must be adapted to the state of the art.
In the past, the water supply companies on the Ruhr have always adapted the treatment processes of the individual waterworks to new challenges and findings. As part of the “Clean Ruhr” program, combined measures are now being taken to protect the waterways in order to ensure a safe drinking water supply in the future and to meet the increased quality requirements.
