Shortdescription
Background:
The project sought to comprehensively and sustainably address the historic and growing sanitation problems in the project area, improving and preserving the local aquatic environment and raising living conditions for residents and those downstream.
Objectives:
To eliminate direct discharging of wastewater to the area’s watercourses by the implementation of adequate sewerage collection, conveyance and treatment infrastructure.

WWTP (Lot 1)
Implementation of:
- Full mechanical treatment;
- Biological treatment with anaerobic ponds for 160,000 PE; (QDWF = 33,856 m3/day)
- Covered sludge drying beds
- Sludge storage building; (9 sludge Drying Beds for annual thickened Sludge production of 18,000 m³ / year)
Assessment and adaption / rehabilitation or removal and replacement of:
- Retaining structures,
- Buildings
- Mechanical and electrical elements (e.g., screening equipment, grit cleansing blower, pumps etc.)
Sewerage network (Lot 2)
Implementation of:
- New sewers (85 km, DN 200 to DN 600);
- New sewer pumping station
- Additional mains, laterals and 6,000 house connections
Main Activities:
- Component 1:
Assistance to Supply Contract(s) for Sewerage Network (Lot 1) and (Lot 2) WWTP; - Component 2:
Project Implementation and Construction Supervision of Wastewater Investments (under FIDIC Yellow Book) - Component 3:
Support to the Contracting Authority during the Works Contractor's Operational Phase –
Works Contracts Lot 1 and Lot 2; and - Component 4:
Checking Contractors Design for WWTP Phase 2.
