Short description
The existing digestion tanks at the Würzburg sewage treatment plant were no longer sufficient to treat the entire volume of sewage sludge. The construction of two new digestion tanks significantly increased capacity and boosted biogas production and electricity generation.
The newly built machine building houses three new CHP units and a heating system, among other things. The stair tower provides access to the digester heads. Another new building houses reception and pre-treatment facilities for external substrates for co-fermentation as well as for faeces and sewer sediments. In addition, exhaust air treatment systems were installed. The new systems were connected to the existing facilities via underground pipe channels.
